Wastahi Campground is a beautiful and unique campground for many reasons. It is located in Big Basin Redwoods State Park which is one of California's best state parks and its' oldest. Campsites each feel secluded as they are nestled into the old-growth redwood forest. The entire campground is walk-in tent camping which attracts a quieter camping crowd.

Our family loves exploring the highway 4 corridor. We spend a week up there every year. With our basecamp in Arnold, we took a day trip over to Lake Alpine this year. On the Northeast side of Lake Alpine, we found a great picknicking area. The kiddos loved crawling over the granite rocks and they had plenty of space to run around. After lunch, we enjoyed a short walk over a small pedestrian bridge toward Pine Martin Campground.

This campground is on a point at the entrance to Hirz Bay. The campsites are all shaded well by a forest of pine, oak and madrone trees. The size of each campsite drastically varies though.

This campground is tucked down in a narrow valley along a stretch of the main Trinity River. Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, Oaks and Madrone trees root on the walls of the canyon. You can walk right out from your site to the Trinity River for some of the best fly fishing (salmon and steelhead mid-August through winter) in the state.
